"And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy of creativity is self-doubt."

Her Story

As she stumbles through the wet grass she searches the fog for the concrete. Her vision is blurred and although she knows where she is going relief still sets in as her bare feet touch the pavement. Now that she is in the correct place, she searches the fog filled night for any form of life.

There is a man. One she met a long time ago, who became her best friend. They did everything together. The relationship wasn't weird, or awkward, or sexual. It was lovely and true. Two people who cared for each other without complication.
A couple months later, on her birthday, he brought her flowers. Not just any flowers- her favorite. Following her to put them in a vase, he was shocked to find a tear rolling down her cheek. Kissing the tear away, he locked eyes with her. Unspoken love, invisible kisses- they needed each other. As the night continued hearts began to race. Skeptically, hands interlocked and lips traced neck lines. Boundaries once placed in order became unfounded and were soon thrown out the window.
Five months later she was broken when he left for school . He was in a different world. His life was different. They tried, but in the end their friendship was all they had left.
Waiting for sleep is probably the worst feeling. Knowing it won't come, that darkness only brings silence, not peace. She chases darkness away because she wants to fly like Peter Pan. An impossibility linked to sadness and realization.
Three years later school has consumed them both, but their random hook-ups and late night phone calls never retreated. He parties more often than he should and she leads guys on in the same fashion.
One unexpected evening, she stared into his deep blue, sky rocket eyes. "Why can't you just be with me?" Her words were soft. His hands placed around her waist tightened. She held one hand to his scruffy cheek as a tear rolled out of his eye. Their eyes connected- there was always love there. An ultimatum- a choice she was forcing him to make.

As the coolness caresses her soles, she stares up to the star lit sky, where the fog is lost in moonlight. Remembering, she deeply takes a breath and looks forward once more. Vaguely, a figure appears through the darkness. She finds herself moving more fiercely. Finally, her objective complete; she lays herself next to the man on the basketball court. She takes his hand in hers, he kisses it, then her lips, and finally the tip of her nose. He smiles. So does she.
...I couldn't be happier...
